5 Cool Weather Staples to Bring Stability to Your Closet & Your Life

With cooler temperatures heading our way (and so much uncertainty still in the air), one area of your life that is relatively easy to get under control while giving you a quick boost of confidence is your wardrobe.

Yes, life is still fairly casual for many of us but there is something to be said for dressing up a notch as we embrace fall routines with as much normalcy (and poise!) as possible. Here are a few ideas that are as simple to implement as they are fun and easy to wear – enjoy!

#1 Basic Black Please
A great way to rebuild a wardrobe after a significant lifestyle change, is to start with updated black basics.  Given today’s more casual wardrobe needs, starting with comfortable black bottoms, layering tops, sweaters and unstructured jackets that work equally as well for the for the gym as they do for work gives you endless versatility too. Below are 6 staples that work across generations, sizes and style preferences from athleisure company Discover Peach. (Note: Peach is a woman-led company based in Boston that we love to support. Sales generated through blog affiliate links do generate a small commission, however there is no additional cost to you.)

#2 Saffron Hues
If you are missing the magnificent sunsets that many of us were lucky enough to witness as summer came to a glorious end these past few weeks, you can still enjoy these colors by bringing them into your wardrobe as your signature fall color staple. Bold, bright, warm and energetic, saffron shades are primarily burnt orange and yellow blends with traces of light pink and soft reds mixed in. Pair your saffron separates with faded denim and lingering whites. Copper, chestnut and other brown-related footwear anchors these beautiful colors well.

#3 Connect with Your Animal Spirit
Tiger, zebra, leopard, snakeskin – they’re all in the mix for fall too and provide an easy way to connect with your inner animal spirit if that’s what you need right now. Animal prints have evolved as a new age staple in many wardrobes as they mix and match well with each other as well as with bold and more neutral colors. If you have never been gutsy enough to pair two different animal prints together but have always wanted to, now might be the time to do it. Nobody on your video calls will be able to tell that you have leopard leggings “roaring” at your zebra top – except you!

#4 Expand Your Circle
Like circle lights for your computer, hoop earrings can light up your video calls (and spirits!) too. Pick your finish — metal, porcelain and fabric to name a few – and easily finish your look with this easy accessory that has come full circle as a significant jewelry staple.

#5 Bring On the House Shoes (Again!)
Finally, with warm days fading fast (and cold floors on their way soon!) now is the time to reevaluate your house shoes (and slippers!) and make any necessary adjustments as we get ready to hunker down again. We use three criteria when advising on this standard category of footwear: safety, comfort and style. For running up and down stairs doing chores, we love a sturdy sneaker with ties. For lounging around anything goes but don’t underestimate good soles for safety and foot health. Besides, good soles are good for the soul when you are stuck inside for days on end!
